    Mar. 01, 2025

    2 Glasses: Renee Lalique, Daum

    Est: $50 - $75

Artist/Designer; Manufacturer: Rene Jules Lalique (French, 1860-1945); Lalique (France), Daum (France) Marking(s); notes: signed Materials: glass Dimensions (H, W, D): largest: 4.25"h, 3.75"dia Additional Information: Provenance: Private Collection, Ithaca, New York. About the collection: The late collector's wife recalls their first glass purchase in a London antique shop circa 1985, which ignited a 30+ year passion for the genre. The couple and their daughter acquired pieces individually during their travels around Western Europe, Toronto, and New York, and ultimately amassed around 300 vessels and sculptures by artists including Fulvio Bianconi, Toots Zynsky, Carlo Scarpa, Ercole Barovier, Paolo Venini, Vittorio Ferro and others. "My husband became a student of the art he collected," recalls Mrs. N. and their daughter. "With each new artist he admired, he would buy books about them, and the biographies and catalogs became catalysts for acquiring more pieces. He was always looking for variety, and he would seek out individual pieces to round out a segment of the collection. When something caught his eye, he pounced on it, and if he couldn't have that particular piece, he'd search for one like it."

    FLACON "PAVOT"

signed in cameo on the bottom A perfume bottle depicting a withering poppy flower. The wilted petals evoke a "memento mori," presenting a theme both decadent and beautiful. Its connection to the fleeting yet unforgettable nature of "fragrance" is undeniable. The bottle is crafted by first molding the main body and subsequently fusing the bottom plate, a highly intricate process that makes this piece exceptionally rare and valuable due to its limited production.
